Wood Plastic Composite
What is WPC?
With the term WPC we identify a product that may seem at first glance simple and almost all the same on the market, in reality, however, we are confronted with various formulas that give products with very different peculiarities and with very different prices.
The definition of WPC (Wood Plastic Composite) identifies countless different mixtures of Wood and Polymers that, after extrusion process, can give rise to products apparently identical at first glance.
In addition to the type of polymer, the quality of the wood powder, as well as their mixing, in order to allow a high durability of the product, many additives MUST be present in order to guarantee its outdoor use.
It should be noted that the additives present in Novowood are approximately 8% of the whole mixture but they cost 50% of the finished product. It is easy to understand why a WPC product can cost very little and another one can cost much more. If you exclude some additives that are extremely important for the durability of the final product, you get a product at first sight identical, but with a high tendency to oxidation and therefore with a reduced life span.
Novowood was therefore born from the need to produce an extremely resistant and durable Composite Wood.
For this reason, the study focused on creating a product that could withstand exposure to marine climates and extreme climatic conditions, such as the direct action of the sun in warmer climates and contact with salty air, i.e. boundary conditions for each type of material.
Its characteristics
Novowood is a material that preserves the qualities of wood but not the defects. It is aesthetically similar to wood, but can be made in different shapes and assorted colors, thanks to sophisticated extrusion plants.
Novowood has the elegance and warmth typical of wood, but the advantages of a polymeric material.
Novowood is an ecological and versatile alternative to the use of natural wood to make walking surfaces, for indoor and outdoor use, wall coverings, window frames, skirting boards, wire covers, roofing and many other applications in solid wood or honeycomb section.
The anti-slip certification
We have certification attesting the slipperiness class of the material, barefoot (C) and barefoot (R11), issued by Laboratorio Prove Autorizzato dal Ministero delle Infrastrutture e dei Trasporti and regularly registered. We also have certification on wet surface according to BRCA standards, Tortus test.
Fire resistance certification
We have a Fire Resistance Certificate attesting the reaction class of the material (CFL - s1), in compliance with the provisions of the reference standards, issued by the Test Laboratory, and relative Homologation by the Ministry of the Domestic Affairs.
Novowood and the Circular Economy
Novowood is a material that is also produced through the use of second-life material. The product, once its life cycle is over, can be re-generated up to 20 times without the need of further new materials.
